Alpenstrandläufer

Während der Zugzeit treten Alpenstrandläufer sehr gesellig auf. Man kann ihre Trupps dann leicht an europäischen Küsten beobachten, wie sie am Spülsaum und in flachen Teichen und Lagunen nach kleinen Krebsen und Würmern suchen. Es ist ein besonderes Vergnügen, die Choreografie der Tiere zu beobachten, wie sie vor den anlaufenden Wellen zurückweichen, sich zentimeterweise voran arbeiten und dann plötzlich allesamt auffliegen, an ihren Ausgangsort zurückkehren und die Futtersuche von neuem beginnen.

During the migratory season, Dunlins are very gregarious. You can easily observe their troops on European coasts as they search for small crustaceans and worms on the shore and in shallow ponds and lagoons. It is a special pleasure to watch the choreography of the animals as they retreat from the approaching waves, work their way forward centimetres at a time and then suddenly all fly up, return to their starting point and begin the search for food all over again.
